LSU looks to get back on track on Thursday evening in Charleston, South Carolina, playing in the second day of the Shriner’s Children’s Charleston Classic. Head coach Matt McMahon and the Tigers face North Texas at 11:30 ET after suffering a close loss to Dayton.

The Bengal Tiger is the only outlet covering LSU in this tournament and will have first-hand coverage on Friday.

“I think the leadership (of our older players) has really set the tone for how we need to move forward as a team,” Coach McMahon said after a film session on Thursday. “I want to see that obviously carry over to the game floor, but I think they have done a terrific job of responding and I look forward to that continuing as we go into the opener (Thursday).”

LSU looks to make noise in the tournament with a new-look roster and pick up some key wins in the non-conference season. Even with the loss to Dayton to start the tournament, there are positives McMahon sees moving forward.

“From an execution stand point, Jalen Reed was terrific, we were able to play through him and he made some great decisions and finished with power around the basket,” McMahon said. “Will Baker did a great job attacking and on some pick and pop opportunities. Then, I though Carlos Stewart had a great offensive have being aggressive which is what we look for him to do. Tyrell Ward hit some big shots for us from behind the arc. When we didn’t turn it over we executed at a high level and got high-quality shots.”

The winner/loser of Friday’s game will play one of the other two teams that lost in the first round of the tournament on Sunday.

“We have a big time game tomorrow in less than 17 hours against one of the best defensive teams in the country in North Texas. We have to turn the page quickly and get started preparing for them.”

“It’s tough when you pour everything you have into something and don’t get the result you’re looking for. It’s disappointing to lose at the buzzer, but I believe in our guys and expect them to respond tomorrow morning at 11:30.”
