Former LSU QB TJ Finley suspended by Tulane Football

Louisiana quarterback TJ Finley signed with LSU alongside Max Johnson as part of the program’s two-man recruiting class in 2020.
Six seasons later, Finley has used the NCAA’s Transfer Portal to play for four programs before choosing to return home and join the Tulane football team ahead of the 2025 season.
Now, Finley’s future with the Green Wave appears in jeopardy.
FOX 8 WVUE-TV in New Orleans reports Finley was arrested on charges in connection to the robbery of a car.
Finley has been released from jail with no comment yet made by his representation.
According to court documents in connection to the arrest, Finley told police that he had recently purchased the car in Atlanta. However, authorities reportedly booked him for being in possession of an item which was stolen at a value of more than $25,000.
Tulane made a statement regarding this matter involving Finley to Garland Gillen at FOX 8, and while the school didn’t go into specifics on the arrest, the program did announce Finley had been suspended from team activities.

“We are aware of the situation involving TJ Finley,” the statement read. “He has been suspended from the football program pending the outcome of the case. Due to federal laws governing student privacy, we will not disclose any additional information regarding the student, including information related to the disciplinary proceedings.”
Finley played one season at LSU in 2020 before transferring to Auburn ahead of the 2021 season. After two seasons at Auburn, he transferred to Texas State as the program’s starting quarterback for the 2023 season. Finley then transferred to Western Kentucky for the 2024 season this past fall, then hit the Transfer Portal as the No. 729 overall transfer and the No. 57 QB per On3’s 2025 Top Transfer Portal Players.
His commitment to return home with the decision to transfer to Tulane put the Louisiana native in the competition to replace former Tulane starter Darian Mensah, who transferred to Duke following the 2024 regular season.
Across his four college stops, Finley has completed 63% of his pass attempts for 6,128 yards, 37 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. Finley’s longest stint as a starter came at Texas State when he passed for 3,439 yards, 24 touchdowns, and eight interceptions while rushing for eight touchdowns in 13 games played.
