To say LSU’s offense has been rolling might be underselling it. The Tigers have had one of the best offenses in the country and are on pace for incredible numbers if they continue to light up scoreboards. Senior quarterback Jayden Daniels is at the forefront of the offensive explosion this year, in the top six in passing yards, passing touchdowns, and QB rating and on an offense that also ranks in the top five in several key categories.

This is the only time in his career Daniels has had the same offensive coordinator for two seasons in a row and that comfort level is showing as the ball is coming out of Daniels’ hand quicker and with significantly more confidence in every game.

“I would say it is [the most comfortable I’ve been],” Daniels said. “To be back in the system for another year helped out a lot to build a report with the same guys and the same coaching staff, same faces and it helps out a lot.”

It was a long offseason as LSU’s offensive staff put in the work to utilize Daniels and the weapons on this offense effectively and it has culminated in one of the best offenses in program history and the best offense in the SEC through five games. The balance paired with explosive pass plays to Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr., have allowed Daniels to keep defenses off balance.

“It was just the work we put in,” Daniels said. “Throwing sessions, film sessions with the coaches, and bringing out what we did last year and translating that to this year with how we can improve, how can we use the offseason to focus in on what we have to improve on to take this offense to another level. That’s what the coaching staff thought about and what we thought about and we went to work. Now, we’re in a groove so that they can put a lot more on me and I’m able to go out there and they trust me to make the right checks and get us in the right plays.”

With the newfound freedom, Daniels is always looking for more in his final college season. Despite the staggering numbers, LSU is still 3-2 on the season and in need of a win on Saturday against Missouri.

While the defense continues to try to patch holes, it’s up to the offense to come out firing in every contest and set the tone. Fortunately, Daniels has expectations to get even better as the year continues.

“I think there is another level,” Daniels said. “Obviously we’re not in the position we need to be in. We didn’t play how we wanted to play against Florida State, we left plays out there last week, even against Arkansas. There’s always room to improve for us. If we eliminate the mistakes and clean up the little things, it sounds crazy, but we can take this to a whole nother level where we average 50 a game or 55. We just have to take it day by day, play by play and keep learning.”
