"It's you vs. yourself" Brian Kelly emphasizes growth in LSU's spring season

LSU’s spring season started on Saturday, but there won’t be media access to the practices until Wednesday, which is practice No. 3 for the Tigers. With just one day under their belt so far, there’s plenty of time throughout the coming four weeks to break down and dissect what we can see in practices, but for now all the team has released is a 30 second video from day one, which includes highlights and head coach Brian Kelly talking to his team.
“Be a great competitor, that’s what spring ball is about — that’s what practice is about,” Kelly said. “It’s us vs. us. It’s you vs. yourself. That’s what this comes down to. Practice your prep every single period. Every chance you get. The words you want to hear are ‘he’s a great competitor.'”
The clip also includes LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier throwing, linebacker Davhon Keys working on block sheds, wide receiver Chris Hilton making an over-the-shoulder catch, wide receiver Kylan Billiot catching a pass over what appears to be cornerback Ashton Stamps, running back Caden Durham navigating a run, Hilton catching a pass over cornerback Ja’Keem Jackson, running back Kaleb Jackson breaking a run, and wide receiver Barion Brown making a tough over-the-shoulder catch.

The past three months since the end of the 2024 regular season has been a whirlwind for the Tigers, dealing with transfer departures, NFL Draft decisions, late coaching searches, and enough roster turnover to make the offseason intriguing for LSU fans. Now, with spring ball underway, the hope is to get answers on some of the key questions on the roster and potential depth chart as we head into this first full week of spring practice.
The team has Monday off, but is back in action on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, making it the official first full week with football back in Baton Rouge. Here is the full schedule.
