Jay Johnson adds another top prospect to LSU's 2026 class
LSU strikes again on the recruiting trail, getting a commitment from Malachi Washington on Thursday night, one of the top players in Georgia and a top 75 prospect in the country for the 2026 class.
Jay Johnson has been intent on getting his program back to the pinnacle for years to come and after building one of the best rosters in the country for 2025, he plans to do the same again looking ahead to 2026.
Prep Baseball Report on Dec. 4, 2024 named Washington as the No. 64 player in the country and No. 6 player in Georgia, writing this about the talented player from Parkview:
“The highest-ranked player in the class that remains uncommitted, but we don’t expect that to last too much longer. The toolshed outfielder has been on some high-profile official visits as of late with an SEC landing spot looking highly likely. Washington holds one of the higher ceilings in the class with above-average hit/power potential, 6.6 speed and longterm tools to stick in centerfield. This is the type of player that can put a recruiting class over the top.”
Perfect Game wrote this about Washington in 2023 as he continued to climb the prospect rankings and as LSU was taking note.
“Malachi Washington is a 2026 OF/RHP/3B with a 6-0 185 lb. frame from Stone Mountain, GA who attends Parkview. Very athletic build with good present strength. 6.63 runner in the sixty. Primary outfielder on defense, very athletic actions through the ball, has a quick transition and release on his throws, plenty of arm strength and makes accurate throws, very strong fundamentals for his age defensively. Right handed hitter, hits from a slightly open stance with a toe turn load into his stride, has fast hands and creates bat speed and barrel whip, can turn the barrel over, can get a bit locked up in his hips and lower half at times, very projectable as a hitter. High level athlete with baseball skills. Good student.”
Johnson and the Tigers finished fall ball in November and now look ahead to the 2025 season. D1 Baseball has nine LSU Tigers in the Top 150 college prospects. The talent continues to flow through LSU.

“We’re putting the players in position for them to develop and improve, and they’re understanding what this team is going to need to do to be successful,” Johnson explained. “Being intentional about what we’re doing has resulted in a productive fall, and it will give us a good starting point when we come back in January.
“I like the feel we have for where we’re at, who we have, what we are and what we need to do in order to have success this season.”
