Jay Johnson hires Nate Yeskie as LSU's new pitching coach
Jay Johnson brought in a familiar face to replace pitching coach Wes Johnson, who left to become the head coach at Georgia. D1Baseball reports that Johnson has hired Nate Yeskie as LSU’s new pitching coach.
Yeskie has spent the last two seasons at Texas A&M, but before that spent two seasons on Johnson’s staff at Arizona as the associate head coach and pitching coach. Prior to the two of them working together at Arizona, Yeskie was at Oregon State for 11 years, which included a College World Series title in 2018 and honors as D1Baseball Assistant Coach of the Year in 2017.
“Nate is regarded as one of the best and most respected pitching coaches in the country at any level…,” Johnson said of Yeskie upon his arrival at Arizona. “… Nate is an exceptional communicator and teacher; he connects with his players on the highest possible level, which has led to the development of some of the best pitchers and pitching staffs in college baseball.”
In Yeskie’s first year with the Aggies, Texas A&M reached the College World Series semifinals. Now, after Johnson led LSU to the College World Series title, the two reunite in Baton Rouge.

“Simply stated, Nate Yeskie is widely known as one of the premier pitching coaches in the country at any level, both in professional and amateur baseball,” Texas A&M head coach Jim Scholssnagle said after hiring Yeskie.
LSU loses starting pitchers Paul Skenes and Ty Floyd, but with Thatcher Hurd, Nate Ackenhausen, Javen Coleman, Garrett Edwards, Chase Shores, as returners and already two exciting pitching additions in Justin Loer and Kade Woods, the Tigers’ staff has plenty of talent to work with in 2024 and beyond.
