Kim Mulkey's latest update on Hailey Van Lith, Kateri Poole

LSU took the 30-point win over Louisiana on Sunday afternoon in the PMAC, but after the win, there were two names who head coach Kim Mulkey addressed.
Here’s the latest on veteran guards Kateri Poole and Hailey Van Lith.
Kateri Poole no longer with the team
Mulkey announced in her press conference that Poole is not with the program and will not return. We had a feeling this was coming as Poole has not played since Friday, Nov. 17, but now it’s official. The former Ohio State transfer is done playing at LSU and the Tigers are now down to 10 scholarship players with Sa’Myah Smith being sidelined for the season as well.
Last year, LSU parted ways with three players, Tamia Ware, Ryann Payne, and Hannah Gusters. In 2021, it was Moon Ursin who left to play at Tulane before the year. Now, it’s Poole, as Mulkey continues to build her roster.
Hailey Van Lith battles plantar fasciitis
The veteran scoring guard continues to battle her lingering foot injury and Mulkey after the game indicated that they’ll be careful in how they use her for the remainder of the non-conference schedule. Conference play begins on Jan. 4 for LSU.

“These games in December, they matter, but they don’t matter,” Mulkey said. “They’re not more important than what we have to do from January through March, so you have to be smart as a training staff with ‘do we need her?’. Like with any nagging thing, the more rest you get, the healthier you get and that’s what’s going on right now.”
Without Van Lith, the depth at the guard position is extremely thin, especially with Poole no longer with the team. Last-Tear Poa will have a major role in any game Van Lith misses and the offensive punch from the perimeter will also take a hit. As the team continues to battle through injuries and dismissals, there are four more games until SEC play begins for Mulkey to get her team right.
