Kimo Makane'ole talks moving from LSU OL to DL in spring practice
LSU lineman Kimo Makane’ole is showing his versatility for the Tigers this spring after moving from offensive to defensive line in practice. He shared more on the team, his move and the new defense with reporters.
On LSU team overall: “This team overall, there’s a lot of leaders, especially Will Campbell, Emery, especially Jacobin Guillory on the defensive line. They’ve been helping us up, bringing us up, and even though when we’re down sometimes that always helps us to motivate ourselves and to keep going.”
On DJ Chester as LSU’s starting center: “Overall, I think DJ’s doing really well. He’s been a really hard worker. I’ve been with him last year. He has that determination in his mind, and his body language is always there 24/7.”
On competition between LSU offensive and defensive line: “Coach Davis on the offensive line, he’s always cracking jokes. Me switching to D-line, but everybody’s family, you know. It’s iron versus iron, helping me get better and helping them to get better.”

On LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier: “Well, every day we got to get one percent better and we always got to set the standard up high on each side of the ball, offense and defense. Garrett, he’s a really big leader of this program. I know that he’s going to take us to the National Championship.”
On new LSU defensive staff: “This new defensive staff, they’ve been helping me a lot. Coach Baker, especially coach Bo Davis helped me with the techniques and especially the fronts too and getting me to know this new position I have from offense to defense. He’s been teaching me a lot and he’s kind of like a second, I would say, like a like a father to me.”
On what he’s learned on defensive line: “I kind of learned like you need to always have to run a lot, a lot of conditioning, but overall, it’s mostly about mental for me, getting to know the defense’s side of the ball.”
