Louisiana CB Wardell Mack rises into 5-star range
Louisiana cornerback Wardell Mack was already ranked by On3 as a Top 100 prospect.
Now, his stock is soaring even higher.
After turning in a strong junior season at John Ehret, Mack moved up from the No. 78 overall prospect to the No. 26 overall prospect.
That puts Mack within striking range to move from a four-star prospect to a five-star prospect once the rankings expand. On3 will close out the 2024 cycle with 32 five-star prospects, though only the nation’s top eight recruits currently carry a five-star label.
Mack is now ranked by On3 as the No. 5 cornerback prospect in America.
On3 National Director of Rankings and Scouting Charles Power said the move to push Mack up the rankings came after getting an even better feel for how the Louisiana native stacks up to the top cornerbacks nationally.
“He stood out with his length and quick feet, and we love that he makes plays on both sides of the ball at John Ehret,” Power said. “He plays receiver and cornerback, and his ball skills stack up well as a cornerback prospect with his receiver background. I think he plays with great balance, as well. You see that when he plays receiver, he’s tough to tackle and is really good on contact. Even though he’s a little on the thinner side right now, he can fight through contact with physical receivers. He’s pretty technically sound in terms of his backpedal and quick feet. He makes plays on the ball.
“He’s one who we really liked what we saw. We just really liked what he put on junior film and backing it up with his length. He has over 33″ inch arms, so he has outstanding length at the position of corner. That coupled with his ball skills, coverage skillset at corner with how polished he is, and the quick feet, it made him a riser for us. He’s one of the top cornerbacks in what looks to be a pretty strong class nationally.”

Mack, who is set to be back on LSU’s campus in March, has been heavily recruited by Brian Kelly and the LSU staff since they arrived in Baton Rouge a year ago.
“They see me coming in and playing early and knowing I’m a high priority for them, it’s nice,” Mack told On3. “I’m not gonna lie. I’ve felt that the whole time, since I got the offer I’ve been a priority.
“They are coming at me pretty hard.”
Mack’s double-digit offer list also includes Alabama, Texas, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Oregon, Tennessee and more.
Though the Early Signing Period doesn’t arrive until December, the in-state Tigers hold the advantage on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.
