Louisiana DL Dylan Carpenter commits to LSU
Following the biggest win to date for first-year head coach Brian Kelly, the LSU football staff has now landed four commitments in four days.
On Sunday, St. Amant defensive lineman Dylan Carpenter made the decision to commit to the Tigers. He had received a scholarship offer from the staff earlier in the week.
At 6-foot-4, 225 pounds, Carpenter has turned heads as a senior this fall. That went a long way towards LSU turning up the heat and flipping him away from the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns. Carpenter had originally committed to the Ragin’ Cajuns in July, but he made the switch once the door swung open with an offer from the Tigers.
“First of all, I would like to thank God for blessing me with this huge opportunity, and I’m extremely excited for what the future holds,” Carpenter said. “I want to thank my family, coaches, teachers, and teammates for pushing me to the best person possible. They have all shaped me into the man I am today.
“This has all been such a surreal experience. I can’t thank UL enough for everything they have done for me, but I couldn’t miss this opportunity to play for the school that I’ve dreamed to play on since I was little. Therefore, I will be flipping my commitment to LSU!”
Carpenter’s commitment comes after LSU landed 2023 four-star offensive lineman DJ Chester on Thursday, 2024 four-star quarterback Colin Hurley on Friday and 2024 three-star offensive lineman Khayree Lee on Saturday.
Carpenter is LSU’s 25th commitment into the 2023 recruiting class. The NCAA does not have a cap on signing limits for the 2023 class. Instead, schools only have to remain under 85 total scholarship players by the time fall camps begin ahead of the 2023 season.

Carpenter takes in Tiger Stadium ahead of commitment
On Saturday night, Carpenter was in Tiger Stadium for LSU’s overtime win over No. 6 Alabama, which gave the in-state standout a chance to get an even closer look at defensive coordinator Matt House’s unit.
“I loved watching their defense,” he said. “They had eleven hats at the ball every play, played very aggressive, and just looked like they were having fun all night.
“It was electric. Loved every second of it.”
LSU continues to build on a Top 5 class
LSU continues to tighten its grip on a Top 5 recruiting class, joining the likes of Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame and Ohio State at the top of the 2023 Consensus Football Team Recruiting Rankings.
Carpenter is the fifth defensive lineman to join LSU defensive line coach Jamar Cain’s 2023 haul.
LSU also holds commitments from four-star EDGE rushers Dashawn Womack, Jaxon Howard and Joshua Mickens, as well as four-star defensive lineman Darron Reed.
The Tigers went into five different states to build the current haul in the trenches, landing Womack out of Womack out of Maryland, Howard out of Minnesota, Mickens out of Indiana and Reed out of Georgia.
