Early on over the summer, Joel Rogers new where he wanted to play his college ball and on Wednesday, made it official, signing to LSU. Rogers visited LSU early in June and subsequently cancelled his TCU and Alabama visits before electing to commit to the home team.

From Saint Francisville (La.) West Feliciana High School, the four-star safety remained a high priority for the Tigers throughout the year and now will be a critical piece of the future for LSU’s secondary.

“I talk to everybody every week… it’s just crazy,” Rogers said after committing. “They are making sure they keep the best in-state talent home. Being from here, maybe I’m biased, but we grow up in harsh conditions in Louisiana. We have a chip on our shoulders. The talent is different here. The want-to on top of that, LSU is moving in the right direction by getting as many kids from The Boot as possible.”

“It used just to be a dream; now it’s a reality. My hometown school … Where I live … Everyone knows of LSU football.”

Rogers is the No. 246 player in the country, the No. 17 safety, and the No. 8 player in Louisiana, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

Family’s support coming to LSU

During his commitment announcement, Rogers was joined on stage by his parents, family and coaches, a moment he said was a fitting end to a recruiting process that resulted in him choosing to play college football just 30 miles down the road in Tiger Stadium.

“I sat on it for a while, then I finally told (my parents),” Rogers said in June. “They asked me if I was sure about the decision I’m making. They didn’t force me to go any specific place. They said they would support wherever I went.

“It’s a feeling like no other. I could have said I was going to any college in the country and my parents would have been there with the shirts, hats and colors.

With a clear passion to play for his state and nearby his family, Rogers is excited to get to play with some of the best in Louisiana and represent his state. He has connections to Dashawn McBride and Trey’Dez Green in this class and looks forward to joining them at LSU.

“I believe we grow up differently in The Boot,” Rogers said. “That chip on our shoulder, and learning to play with it. That’s something we need to give back to (Louisiana).”
