LSU adds safety Kylin Jackson to signing class
The Tigers picked up another signature on Wednesday in four-star defensive back Kylin Jackson. The Zachary High School star committed to LSU on Aug. 13 after a tough recruiting battle to keep Jackson in state. The Tigers beat out the likes of Georgia, Michigan, Oregon, Texas A&M and others for Jackson. The 6-2, 195-pounder took numerous unofficial visits to LSU and Texas A&M, but it was the Tigers that won out.
“With LSU they got the new staff and they have still been pushing,” Jackson said ahead of his decision. “The new staff is really on it.”
Of course, safeties coach Kerry Cooks was essential in getting Jackson to LSU. After committing, Jackson raved about Cooks and said he wanted him to be his coach.
High-level talent
Kylin Jackson is the No. 169 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is the 11th ranked safety prospect and the No. 9 ranked player in Louisiana.
“Kylin is always going to show up and play an intense football game, and that’s the way he plays and he did it again tonight,” Jackson’s coach David Brewerton said after Zachary’s win over Woodlawn. “He made a bunch of tackles like he always does. And he brings a sense of physicality to our football team on the defensive side.”

Jackson is a critical piece of this defensive back haul on Matt House’s defense for 2023 and beyond. With Javien Toviano, Daylen Austin, Ryan Yaites, Michael Daugherty, Jeremiah Hughes, and Ashton Stamps all committed, the Tigers are hoping to build a solid foundation for the future with this class.
Jackson’s team at Zachary finished another strong year, going 10-3 and now he joins an LSU program coming off of an impressive year one under Brian Kelly. With several defensive backs entering the draft and looking for professional opportunities, there are ample opportunities for defensive backs to step in and compete for playing time immediately.
House’s defense was able to fuel LSU in some key spots throughout the season, but now House will look to new faces to shine after the slew of departures. The secondary will be the most intriguing group to watch over the offseason.
