LSU continues to win on the recruiting trail as Jay Johnson reeled in another top-tier prospect in 2025 infielder Ethan Clauss from Las Vegas, Nevada. Clauss is the No. 42 overall prospect in the country and further solidifies the Tigers’ future for the coming years.

Clauss was initially committed to Texas A&M before decommitting then announcing his commitment to the Tigers. He is listed on Perfect Game as both a shortstop and third baseman. He had a batting average of .404 at Palo Verde in Nevada in 2024 and now heads into his senior year looking for more.

He announced his commitment on social media.

“I want to give praise to my Lord and Savior for giving me the ability to play the game I love. I also want to thank all of my coaches, teammates, friends, and most importantly my family for helping me throughout my journey. Finally, I would like to thank @LSUCoachJ. Geaux Tigers!”

Jay Johnson continues to attack the portal and the recruiting trail with full force in the summer months, not only setting LSU up for 2025, but for the future.

“My heart is full when I talk about the 2024 team and the season,” Johnson said after the year. “We had exit meetings on Wednesday that were very positive. When looking at the players that have committed to returning in 2025 you have some good pieces and great character. I’m comfortable with them as a foundation. Then, we have to go get some players. We had 13 players drafted last year and we’ll have between 5 and 11 players drafted this year and that’s a lot of turnover the last two years. That’s what we’re also here to do –  develop guys for professional baseball. That’s led to a hustle of what we need to do to put our 2025 roster where it needs to be. It will look different by design and I’m very excited about that. We’ve had some good interactions from on campus visits and being on the road the past couple of days and we’ll continue that up to the first day of school.”
