LSU Baseball tops national polls after Arkansas series win

LSU’s strengthened not only its case for “best team in America at 1 a.m.”with Friday’s late-night, walk-off win, but its case for the best team in America, period, with its win Saturday to claim the top-10 series vs. Arkansas.

Coach Jay Johnson’s squad reclaimed the top spot in both the Baseball America and D1 Baseball polls when the latest editions were released Monday.

The Tigers (40-12, 17-10) leapfrogged their way from No. 6 and No. 3 on last week’s lists, respectively, after taking two of three at home against Arkansas (41-11, 18-9).

LSU leads six SEC teams in each top 10, as well as 10 teams in Baseball America’s top 25 and nine teams in D1 Baseball’s top 25.

The Tigers travel to South Carolina (26-26, 5-22) this weekend, beginning Thursday at 6:30 p.m., to close the regular season.

This week’s USA Today Coaches’ Poll has yet to be release, but will be added when made available.
