LSU's Brian Thomas, Jr. clocks 4.34 40-yard dash at NFL Combine
The second-fastest 40-yard dash time from wide receivers at the 2024 NFL Combine belongs to LSU’s Brian Thomas, Jr. Thomas ran a 4.34 40-yard dash, which was behind Texas’ Xavier Worthy, who led the wideouts with a 4.22.
In 2023, the former Walker (La.) standout caught 68 passes 1,177 yards and 17 touchdowns as a key piece of the LSU offense to help Jayden Daniels to a Heisman Trophy. That 17-touchdown mark was good for best in the nation.
He ended his LSU career with 127 catches for 1,897 yards and 24 touchdowns. In 2023, he was named an AP All-American.
NFL draft insider Matt Miller appeared on NFL Live last month and shared that he loves what Thomas brings to the receiver position. With his 40-yard time now in the books, he could very well join LSU’s Malik Nabers as first round wide receivers.
“[LSU’s] other wide receiver, Brian Thomas – who happened to lead the nation with 17 touchdown catches last year. He is someone that can stretch the field vertically, he can beat you over the top,” Miller said. “I compared him to Tee Higgins, but here’s the thing. I think he’s actually faster than Tee was coming out of college. There could be some 4.3 ability here.”

“He’s someone in the top 20, once we get past those big three receivers, I think a lot of teams are gonna fall in love with Brian Thomas Jr. this week,” Miller added. “I know I have, watching the tape, so I think general managers are going to do the same because he’s an electric vertical threat.”
A two-sport star at Walker High School, Thomas Jr. was the fourth-ranked recruit overall in the 2021 recruiting class in Louisiana. Thomas caught 30 passes for 507 yards and seven TDs in 2020.
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Thomas was the No. 93 overall prospect in the country and No. 15 overall wide receiver in the nation.
