LSU center reverses course, plans to enter Transfer Portal

The NCAA Transfer Portal’s window after college basketball season has seen a record number of women’s players head elsewhere, and LSU’s Jersey Wolfenbarger has been added to the list.
Wolfenbarger had originally planned to return to LSU for a second season, sources told The Bengal Tiger’s Matthew Brune. On Friday, she elected to enter her name into the Transfer Portal, On3’s Talia Goodman first reported.
Then came a shift in her future plans.
With the addition of former 5-star center Kate Koval, who spent one year at Notre Dame this past season before electing to transfer to LSU, the Tigers are not done with additions to the frontcourt with another big.
And, with the staff’s decision to continue to recruit more talent out of the portal, Wolfenbarger has chosen to reverse course and head elsewhere – which likely means suiting up for a third program across three straight seasons.
The 6-foot-5 forward from Arkansas spent two years playing for the Razorbacks before transferring to LSU one year ago.
In her lone season with the Tigers, Wolfenbarger was primarily the backup center, averaging 4.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per game with 24 blocks, playing 13.2 minutes per game with nine starts.
“I think I’ve learned a lot from this program,” Wolfenbarger said during the season. “Since being here, they’ve kind of elevated my game in different ways.”
Wolfenbarger had been a guard for most of her career, playing mostly on the perimeter at Arkansas, but after working with Kim Mulkey and her staff began making the move to playing down low.

Wolfenbarger’s transfer decision comes in an offseason when the NCAA’s top rebounder is headed to the WNBA Draft in LSU star Aneesah Morrow and two more front court players – Sa’Myah Smith and Aalyah Del Rosario – both entered the portal.
With the departures, the addition of Koval from Notre Dame and signing McDonald’s All-American Grace Knox out of the high school ranks gives LSU a pair of new players in the front court are key, but the Wolfenbarger’s decision to reverse course and leave the program points to the Tigers feeling good about reeling in another transfer as the search to get bigger at the 4 and 5 positions continue.
Stay tuned to The Bengal Tiger and On3 for full coverage of all the LSU Basketball news and scoop from the Transfer Portal.
