LSU defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey is at Tiger Stadium for the Tigers’ game vs. Florida, marking the first time he’s been at a game this season, first reported by Lonn Phillips Sullivan.

In early August, Lindsey stepped away from the team after it was reported he was taken to a hospital out of precaution. Lindsey has not been with the team this season and in his place, John Jancek has had the responsibilities of the defensive line coach. LSU also brought in analyst Pete Jenkins to assist with the development of the defensive line.

Here is what Brian Kelly said back in August when Lindsey first had to step away from the team.

“Defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey will step away from the LSU Football program as he deals with a personal health matter. In Coach Lindsey’s absence, John Jancek will serve as defensive line coach, and Bob Diaco will coach outside linebackers and special teams. Our prayers are with Coach Lindsey and his family, and we ask that their privacy be respected. We look forward to his return to the program.”

Lindsey, who replaced Jamar Cain at the position this offseason, spent the past three seasons at South Carolina. He previously worked as defensive ends coach at Illinois in 2020. He was also the defensive line coach at Western Kentucky (2017-19), Georgia Southern (2016) and Furman (2012-15).

“Jimmy is an outstanding defensive line coach and we are excited to welcome him to our staff,” Kelly said when the Tigers hired him. “He will do a great job of not only coaching our players on the field, but also helping them develop off the field as we continue our commitment to graduating champions.

“Jimmy has a proven track record of developing defensive linemen. I know our players are going to benefit from his expertise.”

Lindsey has a longstanding relationship with LSU defensive coordinator Matt House. The relationship dates back to the pair working together as part of the defensive staff at Gardner-Webb in 2005.
