LSU four-star linebacker commit CJ Ross will start his senior season with a massive matchup as Galena Park (Tex.) North Shore takes on Dallas (Tex.) South Oak Cliff. Kickoff is set for Friday at 7 p.m. CT.

The 5A Division II and 6A Division I runners-up from 2023 will meet to open the season when Oak Cliff heads down to Houston to face North Shore. The Golden Bears claimed back-to-back 5A DII crowns in 2021 and 2022, but fell to Port Neches-Groves in last season’s title game.

North Shore fell to Duncanville in its state championship bid, losing to 2024 LSU running back signee Caden Durham and the Panthers.

Ross committed to LSU After Ross debuted in the On3 Top 300 in February, the Houston standout’s stock soared even more this offseason, moving into the On3 Industry’s Top 100 as the No. 11 linebacker prospect in America.

At 6-foot-0.25, 198 pounds, he’s clocked a 10.36 second in the 100 meters (5th place at state finals) and a 4.34 second 40-yard dash at the UC Report’s Houston camp (fastest nationally).

As a junior for North Shore High, Ross totaled 71 tackles to go along with six sacks, two pass breakups, two interceptions and a pick-six. Now, he’s set to start his senior season off on a huge stage, something he’s used to playing on.

North Shore is the No. 6 team in the country and No. 4 in Texas, according to the On3 Massey Ratings Top 25.

The On3 Massey Ratings — which were officially used during the BCS era and have generated college high school sports team rankings since 1995 — rank sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory.
