LSU defensive line coach Bo Davis picked up his first defensive tackle commit of the 2025 class when Lufkin (Texas) 4-star Zion Williams announced his college choice on Thursday.

Now, Williams has seen his rankings skyrocket.

On Monday, On3 released the newest On300 updates – and one of LSU’s newest commitments was one of the 2025 cycle’s biggest risers.

Williams entered the day as an On3 3-star and was ranked outside the Top 300.

Now, the future LSU defensive tackle is not just a 4-star with On3, but he skyrocketed up the rankings and into the Top 100. Williams is now ranked as the No. 86 overall prospect and No. 7 defensive tackle prospect in the 2025 class.

What Zion Williams brings to LSU’s DT room

On3 National Scout Cody Bellaire’s take: “Big bodied interior disruptor that is a tremendous athlete. He’s a legit 6-foot-3+, 330 pounds and has phenomenal hip flexibility. This kid can actually do the splits, so he’s as flexible as they come at 300+ pounds. This bend and ability to sink allows him to play with excellent leverage and win at the point of attack consistently. He’ll need to develop his hand usage in order to keep his chest clean at the line of scrimmage, but this should be fixated on when he arrives at the next level. He’s an excellent piece of clay for defensive line coaches who want to genuinely coach and teach their players. His upside is as high as anyone on the defensive front in 2025.”

Williams opens up on his decision to play for LSU, Bo Davis

The Lufkin High (Texas) rising senior committed to LSU over Texas, Oklahoma and more, he announced on July 4th. The 4-star defensive tackle is a massive land for LSU defensive line coach Bo Davis, and the newly-minted Top 100 recruit spoke with On3 about his decision to head to Baton Rouge.

“Why LSU? It instantly felt like home when I first visited the school,” Williams said. “It was like Lufkin where I knew my way around and felt comfortable in my surroundings.”

Davis hosted his multiple times for visits since heading to his alma mater to be the defensive line coach. He hosted him for multiple visits, including an official visit in June that set the bar high.

“I love coach Bo (Davis). When I first met him, we just had this connection,” Williams said. “We just built a great relationship and he’s a man I trust to get me right.”

Williams is a centerpiece for Davis when it comes to rebuilding LSU’s defensive line and was feeling like a Tiger earlier this year. He took official visits to TCU, Texas and Texas A&M before sticking with his gut and committing to the Tigers..

“Ultimately, I kinda knew it would be LSU this Spring, but still wanted to give other schools a chance. But the more I visited Baton Rouge, the more I knew this was my home.”
