LSU DB Ryan Yaites enters NCAA Transfer Portal
LSU safety Ryan Yaites entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3’s Pete Nakos learned on Friday. The former four-star prospect will have four years to play three seasons of college football remaining.
Yaites appeared in all 13 games seeing action as a backup safety and on special teams. The former Denton (Tex.) Guyer standout notched 16 tackles and a pass breakup as a true freshman.
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Yaites ranked as the No. 276 overall prospect in the country and No. 20 safety in the nation.
Yaites joins LSU wide receiver Khai Prean, tight end Connor Gilbreath and defensive end Jaxon Howard in the NCAA Transfer Portal.
LSU head coach Brian Kelly and his staff are facing challenges as the Tigers begin life without its Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels and offensive stars. Still, the program is in good shape and is aiming to be in the College Football Playoff this season.

“I think they’re just at a point now where they understand what the standards are,” Kelly said. “It’s an attention to detail, it’s a laser focus, it’s every single day. This is hard.”
“If you want to compete for a championship in this league, you’ve got to be elite. And you can’t get by with just doing it at 90 percent,” Kelly added during Saturday’s Spring Game. “You’ve got to be at 100-plus all the time. So that constant attention to detail is what this team is a lot better at.”
