LSU defensive end Jaxon Howard has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on the first day of the spring window, which runs from April 16-30.

Howard becomes the first LSU player to enter the portal during the spring window.

Howard took a redshirt during his lone season in Baton Rouge, appearing in four regular season games and the bowl game win over Wisconsin. He finished the year with two tackles and a quarterback hurry.

Howard signed with the Tigers as part of the 2023 class, choosing to sign with LSU as the No. 1 prospect in Minnesota and the No. 120 overall prospect on the On3 Industry Rankings.

While Howard became LSU’s first departure, more are expected across the next two weeks.

LSU has added one transfer ahead of the spring portal window opening with the addition of Wisconsin veteran defensive tackle Gio Paez, who will arrive in Baton Rouge in June and be on roster this season.

During the first portal window, which ran from December to January, the Tigers added six players – all of whom took part in spring practices at LSU over the past two months.

Of note, Southeastern Conference rules call for athletes who transfer inside the league during the NCAA Spring Transfer Portal Window must sit a year before playing. Texas and Oklahoma will follow the rule this year since they join the conference in the fall.

The spring window runs for 14 days, but after a student-athlete is officially in the portal, there is no rush on making a decision as long as they are properly enrolled at a new institution in time for fall camp. Commitments do not have to be made during the two-week window. Graduate transfers, like Paez, are allowed to enter the portal at any time.
