LSU fined $250,000 for fans throwing debris on field during Alabama game
The SEC will fine LSU for the second time in the past month, the league announced Monday.
“LSU will incur a fine of $250,000 for the interruption of its contest against Alabama when fans threw debris on the field,” according to the news release.
LSU Athletics also released a statement Monday following the league’s announcement.
“LSU never, under any circumstances, condones the throwing of debris onto the field of play at any of its venues,” the statement said. “This kind of unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated, and we will take immediate steps to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.”
The incident occurred following a third-down play on which the Tigers’ defense appeared to sack quarterback Jalen Milroe for a much-needed stop midway through the third quarter.
Officials instead flagged defensive end Sai’vion Jones for a face mask penalty that extended the drive.
Play was briefly stopped as items were thrown onto at least one corner of the Tiger Stadium field and needed to be removed.

The Crimson Tide ultimately cashed the possession in for a touchdown to begin putting the game out of reach on its way to an eventual 42-13 win.
This marked the second time in less than a month the league has penalized LSU $250,000 after doing so Oct. 14 after fans rushed the Tiger Stadium field following an overtime win against Ole Miss.
The most recent infraction also states the university will:
- Be required to use all available resources, including security, stadium and television video to identify individuals who threw objects onto the playing field or at the opposing team and prohibit them from attending LSU events the remainder of the 2024-25 academic year
- Review and update its Athletics Department game management procedures and alcohol availability policies to prevent a recurrence of Saturday night’s disruption, which shall include an evaluation of agreed upon SEC Sportsmanship, Game Management and Alcohol policies to verify full compliance with existing standards
- Provide a report to the conference office to summarize its efforts to identify and penalize offenders and its plan to enact policies to prevent future similar incidents
The SEC is not suspending LSU’s alcohol sales, according to the release, “but reserves the right to do so if other requirements outlined above are not met.”
