LSU Football Injury Report: Arkansas Week
The LSU football team heads into the Southeastern Conference home opener against Arkansas with multiple players on the injury list.
The Tigers enter the week 2-1 on the year and 1-0 in SEC play, while the Razorbacks sit at 2-1 following a non-conference slate that included a loss to BYU this past weekend.
Here’s the rundown on where things stand with LSU’s injured players.
TE Mason Taylor … Probable … LSU’s starting tight end was a game-time decision vs. Mississippi State, and he worked through warmups in pre-game to get a feel for the ankle injury. The staff elected not to play Taylor, instead rolling with freshman Mac Markway in a 41-14 blowout win. As long as there’s no setbacks, Taylor should be back on the field this weekend.
JACK Ovie Oghoufo … Probable … Oghoufo is sidelined with a lower body injury, and LSU head coach Brian Kelly listed him as probable for the SEC home opener against Arkansas. Oghoufo’s injury status will be updated later this week, but his backup, fellow transfer Bradyn Swinson, has been very good across the first three weeks. Even if Oghoufo plays, Swinson will be in the rotation.

LB Omar Speights … Probable … Speights left the Grambling State game with a lower body injury and didn’t appear close to playing against the Bulldogs, with Kelly saying there wasn’t much progress made on rehabbing the injury prior to the trip to Starkville. He’s listed as probable for Saturday’s home matchup with the Razorbacks, but he’s got competition for playing time. Freshman Whit Weeks was excellent in his first college start, and Kelly said Greg Penn will start at one linebacker spot. If Speights is available, Kelly said Weeks will still see significant snaps.
S Greg Brooks Jr. … Out … LSU’s starting safety didn’t travel to Mississippi State after suffering what Kelly called a “medical emergency”. He didn’t shed much additional light on the situation, but did tell reporters Brooks will not be on the field this weekend.
CB JK Johnson … Out … The Ohio State transfer cornerback underwent leg surgery following an injury in fall camp. Kelly said he will be sidelined until at least December, meaning Johnson won’t be back in the mix this season.
