The LSU football team is headed to Houston for bowl season, drawing a matchup with Baylor in the 2024 Texas Bowl.

The Texas Bowl will be played on December 31 at 2:30 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on ESPN.

The matchup with the Bears means facing off against former LSU defensive coordinator and current Baylor head coach Dave Aranda. Aranda won a National Championship with the Tigers in 2019 before taking the Baylor job in 2020. Aranda was LSU’s defensive coordinator from 2016 through the 2019 season.

LSU finished the season 8-4 overall and 5-3 in SEC play. The Tigers opened the season with a loss to Southern Cal in the final seconds of a Week 1 matchup in Las Vegas, but LSU reeled off six straight wins to bounce back into the hunt for the SEC Championship Game and College Football Playoffs.

Then came a three-game losing skid that began at Texas A&M, included a home loss to Alabama before a 27-16 loss to Florida in The Swamp. From there, the Tigers bounced back again, this time winning two straight games to close out the 2024 season with home victories over Vanderbilt and Oklahoma.

Six teams finished 5-3 in SEC play, LSU included. Only Texas (7-1), Georgia (6-2) and Tennessee (6-2) had better conference records in a wide open year of conference play.

For Baylor, Aranda saved his job as Baylor’s head coach with a win streak that still hasn’t been snapped.

After starting the season with a 2-4 record, there was buzz that a loss at Texas Tech on October 19 could be the nail in the coffin for Aranda’s tenure in Waco. Instead, the fifth-year head coach earned a public vote of confidence from Baylor’s administration when the Bears not only beat the Red Raiders, but won the program’s final six regular season games.

Baylor has not lost a game since October 5 at Iowa State, who went on to become the Big 12 Champions and earn a Top 4 spot in the CFB Playoffs, which were also announced on Sunday. The lone other losses for the Bears across the 8-4 season were to Utah, Colorado and BYU, three teams that were all ranked inside the Top 20 at some point this season.
