LSU freshman forward Corneilous Williams entered the transfer portal on Wednesday, becoming the third player from LSU’s 2022-23 roster to leave the program to play elsewhere.

Williams did not play in a game this season, spending the season rehabbing from an apparent shoulder injury that sidelined him for the entire non-conference schedule.

“Corneilous [Williams] had a good summer, but he is out right now with a shoulder injury,” McMahon said before the season. “I do not have a timeline, but he will certainly miss a majority of the preseason at this point.”

Williams was an 80-rated three-star prospect by On3 in the 2022 class with an offer list of Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, and Mercer before committing to Murray State initially then joining McMahon at LSU once he accepted the job in Baton Rouge.

Growing pains

McMahon took over LSU last spring and the Tigers sputtered to one of the worst seasons in recent history. LSU finished just 2-16 in Southeastern Conference play with a 14-19 overall record.

LSU led off SEC play with a home win over Top 10 Arkansas, but then lost 13 straight league games before beating Vanderbilt at home Feb. 22. LSU beat Georgia in the SEC Tournament before falling to the Commodores on March 9 to end the first campaign under McMahon.

“The reality is we didn’t take over the 22-win LSU team that went to the NCAA tournament. We took over a program in crisis, zero players, zero signees. Really had to start at ground zero and try to put a team together and do our best moving forward. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get it done at the level I would have liked to in January and February. Take quite a few positives from the year.”

The offseason will continue to heat up for LSU over the coming days and weeks as players make their decisions about whether they will stay or leave, but it’s clear McMahon and his staff are looking to shake up the roster on hand after finishing last place in the SEC.
