LSU forward Mwani Wilkinson entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 learned on Friday. The Las Vegas native played in 100 career games for the Tigers.

Wilkinson started 57 games in Baton Rouge after arriving in 2020 when he started 14 games for LSU. His career average for the Tigers finishes as 3.2 points per game, 48.8 percent from the field, 38.3 percent from three-point range and 2.2 rebounds per game.

Last season, he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury. Prior to his season-ending injury, Wilkinson had averaged 2.6 points and 1.6 rebounds per game while getting 13.1 minutes per contest.

“He was a guy who wanted to be at LSU through some challenging circumstances in the spring,” LSU head coach Matt McMahon said at the time. “I thought he had a terrific summer. Great fall. There was a time during the preseason where he injured his shooting shoulder. Wanted to battle through and I thought really competed to do so. It’s just reached a point where it’s counterproductive and it was time for him to go ahead and have the season-ending surgery and work toward getting back to 100%.”

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, Wilkinson was the No. 67 overall prospect in the country, No. 9 power forward in the nation and No. 3 prospect in Nevada. He originally signed on to play for Will Wade and opted to remain with LSU once McMahon took over.

Wilkinson the first Tiger to enter portal of offseason

LSU fell to North Texas in the first round of the NIT, losing 84-77 this week. Now, it’s onto the offseason.

“Obviously we’re disappointed,” McMahon said after the loss to North Texas. “We wanted to advance in the tournament and have an opportunity to keep playing, but I have a great appreciation for our players, their effort, their resiliency this season, for the improvements that have been made in our program and their ability to get us into the postseason.

“They got a really good basketball team. We knew they were a top-15 three point shooting team in the country and they shot the ball exceptionally well form three. They were the better team tonight. That’s the bottom line.”
