LSU freshman Caden Durham goes for 150+ yards on first 2 plays
LSU freshman running back Caden Durham needed just two plays into the Week 5 matchup with South Alabama to not only score a touchdown, but take both a catch and a pass for more than 150 total yards.
On the first snap of the game, LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier found Durham in the backfield, and the speedy running back out of Texas did the rest.
Durham took the short pass 71 yards for a touchdown to put LSU up 7-0.
After a three-and-out forced by the LSU defense, the Tigers went back to Durham again to start drive No. 2.
The result: an 86-yard run that saw Durham tackled at the 1-yard line.
On LSU’s first two snaps of the game, the true freshman logged a catch, a run, 157 yards and a touchdown.
Durham entered the week with 22 carries for 116 yards and two touchdowns on the ground and three catches for 41 yards and a touchdown. In total, three games played across LSU’s first four weeks led to 157 total yards and three touchdowns, including a pair of scores to help the Tigers rally from 17-0 to win the SEC opener at South Carolina.

At halftime on Saturday night against South Alabama, Durham had seven carries for 128 yards and one touchdown and three catches on three targets for 89 yards and a touchdown. In total, the true freshman turned 10 touches into 217 yards and two touchdowns – while coming up 1-yard short of a third score.
Durham was the No. 5 running back on the On3 Industry Rankings for the 2024 class, checking in as a 4-star and one of the nation’s fastest prospects after a decorated senior track campaign that saw the 5-foot-9, 205-pounder record a head-turning 10.39 40-yard dash.
LSU took a 35-3 lead into halftime against the Jaguars, scoring touchdowns on the first four possessions of the game. On the other side of the ball, LSU’s defense – without starting linebacker Harold Perkins and starting cornerback Zy Alexander – held a South Alabama offense that entered the week Top 10 nationally in scoring to just three points and 124 yards.
