LSU jumps into Top 10 of On3 Industry Recruiting Rankings
LSU landed another commitment for the 2024 class, and with the addition, the Tigers have moved into the Top 10 of the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
With four-star wide receiver Jelani Watkins announcing his pledge to the Tigers, LSU jumped Texas A&M, Notre Dame and Southern Cal to move into the No. 10 spot in the rankings.
It continues a red-hot past two weeks for the Tigers, with LSU adding five 2024 commitments over the past 14 days. LSU now has 23 verbal commitments.
Watkins is ranked as the No. 191 overall prospect and No. 32 wide receiver in the country. As a junior at Klein Forest, he hauled in 37 catches for 612 yards and six touchdowns.
Watkins is also set to run track at LSU, and he won a pair of UIL Class 6A state titles in track as a junior this spring, including repeating as state champion in the 200-meter dash.
LSU climbs into the Top 10 of the recruiting rankings
With 23 commitments for the 2024 class, LSU moved past the Aggies, Irish and Trojans to take over the No. 10 spot on the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
While he plays his high school football in Texas, Watkins is originally from the New Orleans area.
When it comes to recruiting Louisiana natives, LSU has now added 16 recruits on board.
On offense, the highest-ranked commitment from the Bayou State is four-star Trey’Dez Green, who is ranked as the No. 72 overall prospect in the class. Watkins joins Terrebonne wide receiver Kylan Billiot and John Curtis wide receiver Michael Turner as Louisiana natives on the wide receiver commit list. On the offensive line, the Tigers have two Louisiana prospects committed in John Ehret offensive lineman Khayree Lee and Natchitoches Central offensive lineman Joseph Cryer.
Top 150 linebacker Tylen Singleton is the most recent name in from Louisiana on defense, and Denham Springs safety Dashawn McBryde is the lone commitment on defense ranked higher than Singleton. McBryde enters his senior season as a Top 100 prospect nationally.

The Tigers dip into Texas, once again
LSU now has commitments from four Texas high school rising seniors, though two – Watkins and Atkins – are Louisiana natives.
Before landing San Marcos offensive tackle Ory Williams on July 30, the Tigers reeled in Aledo’s Davhon Keys in March.
LSU is still targeting a handful of targets in the Lone Star State, including prospects like five-star edge rusher Colin Simmons, four-star running back Caden Durham, five-star cornerback Kobe Black, four-star offensive tackle Ory Williams, four-star offensive lineman Weston Davis, and five-star athlete Terry Bussey.
Both Simmons and Durham have announcement dates set for August 10.
