LSU's Kade Anderson (32) throws a pitch during the college baseball game between the University of Oklahoma Sooners and the LSU Tigers at L. Dale Mitchell Park in Norman, Okla., Thursday, April, 3, 2025.

Kade Anderson was, as they say, “on one” Thursday evening.

The LSU sophomore southpaw struck out 14 Oklahoma batters in a complete-game, 2-0 shutout of the top-10 Sooners.

Anderson became the first Tigers pitcher in nearly two years to throw a complete game (Paul Skenes on June 2, 2023) and the first in nearly seven years to throw a complete-game shutout (AJ Labas on April 24, 2018).

And, in the process, the Madisonville native who prepped at St. Paul’s became the trending darling of College Baseball Twitter as reporters, fans and former players reacted to everything from his arm talent to his fresh fade haircut and “aura” and from the performance’s historical context to the players’ draft potential.

“I thought Kade just hit another gear tonight,” coach Jay Johnson said afterward. “That was literally the definition of getting better as the game goes along. He was pitching with great tempo and getting ahead in the count more as the game went along, and I didn’t think their hitters were seeing him very well.

“He was getting stronger, he was well-conditioned for it, and leaving him in the game was one of easiest decisions we’ve had in a tight game this year.”

Below are a few of the posts and comments that caught our attention.

The Tigers (28-3, 8-2) and Sooners (22-6, 5-5) are scheduled to continue the series with Game 2 at 6:30 p.m. Friday, then close with Game 3 at 2 p.m. Saturday.

LSU entered the week at No. 5, No. 6 and No. 7 in the Baseball America, USA Today Baseball Coaches and D1 Baseball polls, respectively, and a game-behind the SEC-leading pack of Arkansas (27-3, 8-1), Georgia (29-2, 8-1), Tennessee (27-2, 8-1) and Texas (23-4, 8-1) in the league standings early in the process.

Oklahoma entered the week at No. 9, No. 9 and No. 10 in those rankings, respectively, after losing last weekend’s road series at Alabama (26-4, 6-3).
