LSU adding former Miami DC Lance Guidry to defensive staff, per report
LSU will reportedly add to its staff a Louisiana native and longtime Division-I coach with a track record of recruiting the state and region.
Former Miami defensive coordinator Lance Guidry, a Welsh native and former McNeese State standout will join the Tigers, according to Matt Zenitz of CBS and 247.
Guidry’s two-season tenure with the Hurricanes ended late last month as coach Mario Cristobal announced his firing.
The 53-year-coach brings more than two decades of college experience to Baton Rouge, as well as relationships with current members of the LSU staff and roster.
Guidry served as a graduate assistant at McNeese State in 1994 before spending five seasons at the high school ranks with prominent programs at Leesville and Carencro.
He returned to the Cowboys in 2000 as a defensive backs coach and has made stops since then at Miami (Ohio), Western Kentucky, Southeastern Louisiana, Florida Atlantic, Marshall and Miami — including coordinating opportunities with most programs and three winning seasons as McNeese State’s head coach from 2016 to 2018.

The Hurricanes’ defense improved from 376.5 yards and 26.8 points per game in 2022 prior to Guidry’s arrival to one of the ACC’s better units at 321.6 yards and 22.8 points per contest in his first season.
Miami’s final numbers this fall were 327.2 yards per game, second-fewest in the conference, and 25.3 points per game.
But the title-hopeful program faltered down the stretch, allowing 31.9 points per game through ACC play and their Pop-Tart Bowl loss to Iowa State and losing three of their final four contests.
The Hurricanes have tried to re-establish recruiting inroads in Louisiana in recent cycles, including six natives on the 2024 roster and three on the defensive side of the ball: defensive backs Dylan Day (Southern Lab) and Jadais Richard (West Monroe), and preferred walk-on linebacker Casey Rizzi (Country Day).
