Latest update on LSU LB Whit Weeks after Texas Bowl injury
LSU linebacker Whit Weeks left the game with a significant ankle injury in the second quarter of the Tigers Texas Bowl game against Baylor on Tuesday evening. Weeks had his ankle snapped back into place and had it placed in an air cast before leaving on a cart.
After the game, Kelly said Weeks has a dislocated ankle and will have surgery very soon and while he hesitates to put a timetable on it, the spring football season is a tentative starting point.
“Initial indication is a dislocated ankle,” Kelly said. “We’ll have surgery quickly. I don’t want to give an exact timeline but we should have him ready to go sometime around spring ball. Obviously, we feel for him and certainly he’s a tough kid that will handle this the right way. We’ll act quickly with him and his family was there. Our team responded quickly because he’s such an important part of what we do.”
Shea Dixon wrote this in the LIVE Game Thread on The Bengal Tiger On3:
“LSU star linebacker Whit Weeks, one of the NCAA’s best defensive players this past season, went down with an ankle injury on Baylor’s touchdown run from the goal line. LSU’s entire team came out to send Weeks off, a testament to the Georgia native’s impact on the roster as the backbone of the defense this season. Weeks had his right ankle in an air cast before being carted off the field with less than two minutes until halftime.”
Weeks had six tackles in less than two quarters, bringing his season total to 120 tackles on the season. He also had two forced fumbles and 3.5 sacks this season, establishing himself as one of the best defensive players on LSU’s roster.
The sophomore linebacker had some standout games, including a touchdown against Arkansas, 18 tackles against Ole Miss, and 15 tackles against Alabama and Oklahoma. Weeks was constantly the heart of the defense and spoke on the team’s effort.

“That’s what we expect. We’re the LSU Fightin’ Tigers, that’s how you’d expect us to play,” Whit Weeks said after the Arkansas win. “I’m proud of our guys. It’s so fun to be out there with my ten other brothers out there on the field. I know the group of guys we got and I’m taking us over anybody.
“I really credit coach Baker. There’s so much more that I can do. There were plays out I should have made but I didn’t and coach Baker is going to get on me for them and he’ll coach me up good.”
Whit’s brother, West redshirted this year and will be returning for the 2025 season. He played in the bowl game and ended with a team-high seven tackles. The two will be joined by Zach Weeks, their other brother, giving them all a chance to be on the same team for the first time. The family from Georgia has become a staple for the Tigers under Brian Kelly and now hopes to get them all on the field under defensive coordinator Blake Baker.
