LSU MBB in top six for high-level point guard prospect
LSU made the top six for four-star prospect Nyk Lewis, who announced his list Thursday night. Creighton, Georgetown, LSU, Michigan, Seton Hall, and Xavier are his final group of schools and he’s coming off of a stretch of official visits to Xavier, LSU, and Seton Hall, and has a Michigan visit lined up for Aug. 1
He’s taken other visits to Oklahoma State, Marquette, Georgetown, and Maryland, but at the moment, he doesn’t have any other official visits set for the fall, although he will add some.
“The campus was really nice, then we went out to breakfast and dinner a couple of times, so I got an even better feel of the staff and it was just a big family,” Lewis said. “I got to see some practices and workouts and met with the academic advisor about the classes I’ll be taking. Overall, it was a great visit and I got to know the coaches way better.”
At 6-foot-1 out of Washington D.C., Lewis is the No. 46 overall prospect in the 2025 cycle. He’s also the No. 6 point guard prospect according to the On3 Industry Rankings.
Lewis has mostly been recruited by schools on the east coast or in the Big 10 to this point, so getting to travel down south to an SEC school was an eye-opening experience. At the moment, LSU is the only SEC school that he’s visited on either an official or unofficial visit.
Head coach Matt McMahon and assistant coach Casey Long have been his main recruiters and contact him almost every single day.
“I knew a little bit about LSU before the visit,” Lewis said. “I knew it’s an SEC school so it’s a little bit more out there than other schools. I learned more about the facilities and just how they do things at LSU. There was a live Tiger on campus which surprised me and the Death Valley football stadium holds 100 thousand people, so it was just massive.”

“The staff reached out to me June 15 last year, when the contact period started, so I really appreciate that they’ve been recruiting me from the start.”
With the batch of visits behind him, Lewis is focused on his Nike EYBL Team, Team Takeover, which is one of the best in the country at 14-1 on the season and set to compete at the highest level for high school basketball players.
His decision won’t linger too deep into the fall as he eyes a decision well before signing day.
“This summer I wanted to become more of a leader and more aware and our team is 14-1 right now,” Lewis said. “We’re on our way to Peach Jam and that was my main goal this summer.
“My timetable for a commitment is August or September. I’m going to take all my visits then weigh all my options to decide.”
