LSU MBB signee Jalen Reece showing out to start senior season
LSU signee Jalen Reece has had a strong start to his senior year as he continues to prove why he was a coveted addition to the Tigers’ 2025 class. Coming off of a strong summer on the Nike EYBL Circuit where he played on an elite Florida Rebels team, the 6-foot point guard from Orlando has now began his final year at Oak Ridge high School as a dominant presence, consistently scoring and dishing assists.
Reece and his team are playing in the City Of Palms Classic this weekend, featuring some of the top teams in the nation. On Friday against Owasso, Reece dropped 18 points and eight assists on 7-of-10 shooting, and 4-of-6 from 3-point range, a performance that has become the norm.
On Thursday, Reece posted 12 points, 10 assists, and two steals on 4-of-11 shooting in a team-high 29 minutes in a 42-point win. Reece is a masterful floor general who continues to lead Oak Ridge among the best competition in the country.
Here are some highlights from earlier in the year as well.
LSU head coach Matt McMahon continues to try to build a point guard pipeline in his program for the future, starting with Curtis Givens in the 2024 class and continuing it with Reece this year. Reece is the No. 73 player in the country and the No. 12 point guard according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

“Jalen Reece is a true floor general with excellent court vision and elite passing ability,” said Coach McMahon. “Creative and smart, he makes plays for his teammates while also being a proven scorer. Jalen will bring consistent 3-point shooting to Baton Rouge, and he will flourish in our up-tempo ball screen attack. I love his competitiveness, toughness, and intelligence on both ends of the court. He has winning DNA that translates on the national stage.”
On3’s Jamie Shaw wrote this about LSU’s future point guard as he emerged on the AAU scene over the summer.
“What you walk away appreciating about Jalen Reece is his ability to run a team. The sturdily-built point guard has played in big games, in big settings, for much of his life. This summer, on Nike’s EYBL Circuit, Reece finished averaging 4.4 assists with a better than 2-to-1 assists-to-turnover. He moved the ball to the appropriate spots and took care of possessions. Reece will need to tighten up his shooting stroke, working with his balance and footwork. He is a solid athlete and has excellent instincts on defense with quick hands and natural anticipation. While the ceiling for Reece might not be as big as others, he is a high floor player who you know what will bring on the court.”
