LSU, Mike Denbrock, agree to three-year extension
Brian Kelly was intent on keeping his offensive coordinator over the offseason, coming off of one of the great offensive seasons in LSU history, and on Wednesday morning, Ross Dellenger reported that LSU has finalized a three-year extension with Mike Denbrock to keep him in Baton Rouge.
Denbrock was Brian Kelly’s hire when he took the LSU job two years ago, and now after two seasons of quality production on the offensive side of the ball, Denbrock looks to continue that success into the future at LSU.
Denbrock served on Kelly’s staff at Grand Valley State for seven years in the 1990s, then also was with Kelly for seven years at Notre Dame from 2010-2016, spending the final three seasons as the offensive coordinator in South Bend.
The two have now taken the SEC by storm, fielding the best offense in the country in 2023 as Denbrock was named a finalist for the Broyles Award after this season. Quarterback Jayden Daniels is a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, wide receiver Malik Nabers is a finalist for the Biletnikoff, and the offensive line is a semi-finalist for the Joe Moore Award currently.

The three-year extension is set to keep the train rolling in Baton Rouge after a season that shattered expectations offensively. Denbrock helped engineer an offense that posted 547.8 yards per game and scored 46.4 points while also developing into the most explosive offense with 102 plays of 20 or more yards, 51 plays of 30 or more, and 29 plays of 40-plus, the most in college football.
At quarterback, Daniels was one of only five players in SEC History to account for 50 touchdowns in a season, joining Joe Burrow, Tim Tebow, Cam Newton, and Bryce Young — all of which went on to win the Heisman Trophy.
The Tigers ended the year 9-3 overall with impressive wins over Texas A&M, Florida, and Missouri, but it wasn’t enough to end the year in the top 10. Now, LSU looks to get the 10th win of the season in the Reliaquest Bowl against Wisconsin on New Year’s Day.
