LSU pushing to flip an SEC TE commitment
The LSU football staff has been scouring the country for potential tight ends in the 2023 class, and on Wednesday, the Tigers made the move with a verbal scholarship offer to a current SEC commitment.
Fort Worth (Texas) three-star Ka’Morreun Pimpton, a Vanderbilt committed, revealed he had spoken with the staff in Baton Rouge and nabbed an offer from the Tigers.
“Staying modest as I announce how sanguine I am to have earned an offer from Louisiana State University!”, Pimpton posted to his Twitter account.
Soon after news came in from LSU’s staff, Auburn followed suit with a verbal scholarship offer.
Pimpton committed to the Commodores on July 26, choosing Vanderbilt over Colorado State and Rice. Since his commitment, scholarships also came in from Arizona State, Utah, Washington and Houston. LSU and Auburn verbal offers both arrived on Thursday.
What Pimpton brings as a TE prospect
Pimpton is ranked by On3 Sports as the No. 22 tight end prospect in the country, while he checks in as the No. 35 tight end on the On3 Consensus Rankings.
At 6-foot-6, 220 pounds, Pimpton not only has size, but he’s also off to a huge start to his senior season in terms of production.
After catching 17 passes for 277 yards and two touchdowns as a junior in 2021, Pimpton has already hauled in 30 catches for 444 yards and nine touchdowns across North Crowley’s 5-0 start to the 2022 season.
As a junior in the spring of 2022, Pimpton qualified for state in the shot put. He owns a personal best throw of 54-feet, 10-inches, while his best discus throw is 160-feet, 10-inches.

LSU with a big need at the TE position
LSU entered the 2022 regular season with just two initial scholarship counters at tight end in junior Kole Taylor and freshman Mason Taylor.
First-year offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock leans heavily on an offensive system that often features multiple tight ends, and beyond M. Taylor and K. Taylor, the Tigers have tapped into some former walk-ons turned scholarship players in Jack Mashburn and Nick Storz.
Through five games, M. Taylor has 13 catches for 106 yards, while K. Taylor has three catches for 22 yards.
LSU has one tight end prospect committed in On3 Consensus four-star prospect Mac Markway out of Saint Louis, Missouri. Markway committed to the Tigers in March.
With the need for more tight ends, the Tigers could always test out the NCAA Transfer Portal after the season, but the move to offer Pimpton a scholarship speaks to LSU’s hopes of adding at least two high school tight ends to the 2023 roster.
Of note, Pimpton’s high school wide receivers coach is former LSU wide receiver John Diarse, who played for the Tigers from 2013-15 after signing on as a four-star wide receiver out of Neville High (La.). Diarse, who graduated from LSU in three years, transferred to TCU to finish out his collegiate career.
