LSU set to host the No. 1 CB in America
On Saturday, LSU will return to Death Valley for the open of Southeastern Conference play.
And five-star Desmond Ricks will be in attendance, giving the staff another chance to host a marquee recruit in the opening weeks of the season.
Ricks is set to make another unofficial visit to Baton Rouge this weekend to see the LSU football team in action against Mississippi State, which follows up his trip to campus in the offseason. The Bulldogs enter the game at 2-0, while the Tigers are sitting at 1-1 following a one-point loss to Florida State and a 65-17 win over Southern University.
Ricks is ranked by the On3 Consensus as the No. 1 cornerback prospect in the 2024 class and the No. 2 overall prospect.
While there has been mutual interest between LSU’s new staff and Ricks, there are plenty of other suitors in the mix – including teams like Alabama, North Carolina, Florida and Florida State. The Tide hold the early edge on the On3 RPM.
LSU currently has five commitments in for the 2024 class, which ranks No. 6 on the On3 Team Recruiting Rankings.
Ricks currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $159k, ranking him No. 74 overall in the high school football NIL rankings. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

The On3 Evaluations
In July, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power was in person at Future 50 and walked away impressed with the rising junior.
“(Ricks) was perhaps the top corner on hand throughout the morning session at Future 50,” Power said. “He’s technically advanced for a 2024 prospect. He’s smooth in drills and has a readymade coverage skill set. The IMG Academy corner lost a few reps but largely held his own in 1-on-1’s showing the ability to stay in-phase with some smaller, quicker receivers.
The On3 Scouting Evaluation: “Big, athletic corner who stars on one of the most talented defenses in high school football. Has good stature for the position at over 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds heading into his junior season. Registers as a strong athlete in the combine setting. Was a key player on IMG Academy’s talented defense as a sophomore in addition to seeing significant time as a freshman. A smooth mover with advanced technical ability. Battle-tested against top wide receivers both in practice at IMG and in playing a national schedule throughout the fall. Older for the class, turning 18 years old in the middle of his junior season.”
