LSU has signed Lafayette Christian Academy star Ju’Juan Johnson, inking the four-star during Wednesday’s Early Signing Period.

The four-star out of LCA played in his fourth consecutive state title game in December, and he wrapped up his high school career as one of the most accomplished football players in the state’s history.

After setting a record for yards in a state title game last December, Johnson turned in a 457 yards of total offense with 192 yards on the ground and three touchdowns for LCA in this year’s title game.

“He’s as good as I’ve ever been around. He does a great job,” LCA head coach Hunter Landry said. “It starts Monday through Thursday. His work ethic at practice is second to none. He’s not a guy who slacks off at practices. What you see on Friday, he runs that hard at practice. He only knows one gear. He’s a tremendous athlete. Whatever he does moving forward, he’s gonna be great. He has a great work ethic. He’s the ultimate competition, whether you’re playing dice or playing football; he’s trying to win the game. I can’t say enough good things about him.”

Johnson is headed to LSU as a cornerback, but he shined at quarterback during his time at LCA.

For nearly 25 years, Evangel star quarterback Brock Berlin held the Louisiana record for most total yards during a high school career.

During his time at Evangel, Berlin put up 13,659 total yards on offense.

This season, the record fell.

The new name atop the list: Ju’Juan Johnson.

Johnson entered the year with 2,211 career rushing yards and 29 touchdowns while passing for 7,134 yards and 76 touchdowns.

Berlin’s record was within reach, and Johnson remained the course through 10 games – then needing just two playoff games to take over the No. 1 spot.

By the time he broke Berlin’s record, Johnson had passed for 3,058 yards and 38 touchdowns while rushing for 1,240 yards and 21 touchdowns.

After 12 games as a senior, Johnson totaled 10,192 passing yards and 114 touchdowns and 3,451 yards rushing and 50 touchdowns.

In total, Johnson amassed 14,470 yards during his time at LCA, which puts him No. 1 in LHSAA history after passing up Berlin’s mark of 13,659 career yards.

Johnson also finished his LCA career with more than 170 touchdowns, which moved him into the No. 1 spot for most career touchdowns in Louisiana high school history.

Former LSU great and University High standout Nick Brossette, who is now on the LSU football staff, totaled 167 total touchdowns during his time in high school, holding the LHSAA record for both career touchdowns (167) before Johnson topped the mark. Brossette still holds the LHSAA career rushing touchdowns (154) and career rushing yards (8,708) records.
