BREAKING: LSU signs Southeastern transfer Zy Alexander
Southeastern Louisiana cornerback Zy Alexander signed with LSU as a transfer addition, the school announced on Friday.
Last season, Alexander had 27 tackles, four pass breakups and three interceptions. In 2021 he broke the school record with six interceptions.
The Louisiana native Alexander played quarterback, defensive back, wide receiver and baseball in high school. He signed with Southeastern Louisiana over offers from Northwestern St., Grambling St., and Mississippi College.
LSU’s roster additions feature two of the nation’s top high school prospects for the Class of 2022 in wide receiver Aaron Anderson (Alabama) and cornerback Denver Harris (Texas A&M). The Tigers also added defensive linemen Jordan Jefferson (West Virginia), Jalen Lee (Florida), Paris Shand (Arizona) and Bradyn Swinson (Oregon).
Zy Alexander adds to LSU’s transfer haul
LSU head coach Brian Kelly is expecting numerous transfer additions to join the program. LSU inked 25 additions from the high school ranks and landed a few transfers as well.

“We focus strictly on recruiting to LSU, the players we want here, that we believe will be successful here and we can develop,” Kelly said on Wednesday. “That’s our mindset. We focus strictly on the job at hand and we recruit those who understand our mission to graduate champions.”
Kelly’s set on building LSU through the high school ranks, which means being particular in going after transfers.
“I don’t feel confident in the portal, I feel confident in what we’re going to use the portal for,” Kelly said. “That is strictly to bolster a position group still in need of development. This program will be built on freshman. We’re still not there in particular on the defensive side of the ball so you’ll see that as we move forward on Friday’s announcements in terms of players. I’m confident that we have a plan and the kind of players we want to bring in out of the portal.”
