LSU TE Mac Markway steps away from program
LSU tight end Mac Markway stepped away from the football program, head coach Brian Kelly announced on Tuesday. Kelly reported that Markway informed the coaches Monday night that he will not be playing for the team this fall.
Kelly didn’t share what Markway’s next steps were whether that be transferring or just moving on from the game.
He appeared in 12 games with one start as a true freshman, starting in place of an injured Mason Taylor in the team’s win over Mississippi State. The Saint Louis native caught three passes for 16 yards with a lone touchdown coming against Georgia State.
Markway was in a crowded tight end room with the likes of Taylor, Trey’Dez Green, Ka’Morreun Pimpton and others.
LSU ready for huge 2024 season
Kelly discussed expectations relative to where he thinks the program actually is during his press conference at the podium from SEC Media Days in Dallas last month. For him, the pre- and in-season presumptions don’t interest him as much as what his team is doing daily to meet and exceed those goals.

“The easiest way for me to answer the question is that I don’t deal in expectations. I deal within a process of how we do things on a day-to-day basis,” said Kelly. “I know that’s not the answer you want.”
“We don’t deal on a day-to-day basis with those expectations as much as are we doing the things necessary that allows us to stick with our process? Because we’re not about the results as much as are we making progress towards our ultimate goals?”
Kelly’s got his eyes on a National Championship in Baton Rouge. He’ll have to lead the Tigers while losing some depth at the tight end spot now.
