LSU TE Mason Taylor declares for 2025 NFL Draft
Another LSU player has declared for the 2025 NFL Draft.
Junior tight end Mason Taylor, a three-year starter for the Tigers, shared via social media Thursday of his decision to forego his remaining college eligibility and begin his professional career.
“From the moment I could say ‘football,’ I had a front row seat to witnessing this great game played at its highest level, inspiring my dreams and aspirations of one day doing the same,” Taylor wrote. “Louisiana State University has given me the opportunity to play with and against the absolute best college football has to offer, and has prepared me to transform those childhood dreams into reality. After prayer and consideration, I have decided to forgo my senior season and declare for the 2025 NFL Draft.
He added: “To the absolute best fans in all of college football, your passion for the game has been inspiring. There is no better feeling than running onto the field at Tiger Stadium and that is because of YOU! Thank you for supporting my LSU journey from day one. I am excited for both the challenges and the opportunities that are in front of me, but please know that while I am leaving LSU, I will forever bleed purple and gold. Geaux Tigers!”
According to ESPN’s Mel Kiper, Taylor is considered the No. 3 TE in this year’s draft class and No. 75 overall. Pro Football Focus also has him as the No. 3 TE and but ranked him higher overall as the No. 55 prospect.
Taylor arrived to Baton Rouge in 2022 out of Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas where he had a very successful high school career that included three state championships. He immediately made and impact during his freshman season.

Taylor’s breakout moment came in his freshman season when he played a key role in LSU’s dramatic overtime victory against Alabama, catching the game-winning 2-point conversion that sent the Tigers to a 32-31 win over the Crimson Tide. Since then, he’s developed into a reliable target for LSU quarterbacks Jayden Daniels and Garrett Nussmeier, combining his athleticism, strong hands and football IQ to create mismatches against opposing defenses.
The 6-foot-5, 255-pounder caught 38 passes for 414 yards in Year 1, then as a sophomore battled an ankle injury, but still caught 36 balls for 348 yards. During the 2024 season, Taylor hauled in 55 catches for 546 yards. Taylor owns the record for the most career receiving yards by a tight end in LSU history.
Taylor comes from a football family as he dad Jason Taylor played 15 years in the NFL and is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame while his uncle Zach Thomas is also a former NFL standout who is also in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Taylor has twice been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll and earned Freshman All-SEC honors in 2022.
