LSU vs. South Carolina postponed to Friday due to winter storm
The highly anticipated game between No. 5 LSU and No. 2 will be postponed from Thursday night to Friday at 4 p.m. CT due to travel issues brought on by Winter Storm Enzo, the SEC announced Wednesday. The game will still air on ESPN.
LSU’s home game on Sunday against Texas A&M will remain on Sunday at 3 p.m. CT.
The Tigers have started the year 20-0 and sit at No. 5 in the latest AP poll. Kim Mulkey’s team has also started 5-0 in SEC play with wins over Arkansas, Auburn, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and Florida and Friday marks the fourth road game in LSU’s first six conference games. South Carolina is also unbeaten in SEC competition and comes off of a 41-point win over Oklahoma, keeping them as a top two team in the country.
The Gamecocks beat LSU last year in a back and forth battle in the PMAC 76-70, then the two met once again in the SEC Championship where South Carolina won 79-72 in another blockbuster matchup. When these two sides meet, the star power and talent level is on full display, highlighting the best parts of women’s basketball. As a result, crowds and eyes have become invested in LSU and South Carolina and Kim Mulkey felt it last year when the PMAC broke a record for this game.
“It makes you proud,” Mulkey said after the game. “It reminds me of what I told Holly Rowe before the game. When I had my first press conference here, I said all I want to do is come back to this state and do something positive. Little did I know at that time we would do what we have done in such a short period of time. So now we have probably created a monster. And we have to keep feeding it. And that’s the challenging and hard part. You grind and you grind and you grind. And I’m no spring chicken. How much do you keep grinding or do you just do like Saban did and say, I’ve had enough? Because people forget how hard it is. Do y ‘all realize what we’ve done in three years is ridiculous? But that’s what we do as competitors as coaches type -a personalities. It’s hard and I’m forever grateful to the community at LSU. We will just keep doing what we do.”
