LSU’s riding the high of beating Alabama on Saturday, jumping up well into the Top 10 of the AP Poll and the Tigers will undoubtedly move up in the College Football Playoff rankings.

On Monday, the Southeastern Conference announced LSU will kick off against UAB on Nov. 19 at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN2 inside Tiger Stadium. The Tigers face Arkansas this week at 11 a.m. CT in Fayetteville.

Head coach Brian Kelly went for the 2-point conversion and the win against Alabama on Saturday. It paid off as quarterback Jayden Daniels hit Mason Taylor for the victory and fans stormed the field.

“It’s a play that gives you options at the quarterback positions,” Kelly elaborated. “Sprint out, the ball was in the middle of the field. It gives you the option if they are going to blitz inside, you’re out on the perimeter. If they’re going to come off the edge, you’ve got the ability to get the ball out of your hands quickly. If they play bracket coverage and they want to double up the receivers, you’ve got the quarterback now on the perimeter, very dangerous.”

LSU controls its own destiny in SEC, CFB Playoff race

After a narrow loss to Florida State and a blowout loss to Tennessee, it was tough to see a path to the College Football Playoff. Three straight wins later and LSU is now in control of its destiny in the SEC.

That puts Kelly’s team squarely in the mix to make the College Football Playoff. Winning out would make it difficult for the Tigers to not see the final Top 4.

“Yeah, I mean, I knew after the Florida State game that we were going to get better,” Kelly said of the rise. “I knew this football team would be a better football team in November. But I don’t think I’ve ever in my career kind of looked at the crystal ball and said, ‘hey, this is how many wins we’re going to get or how many losses.’ We got an extra point blocked. That’s on me. It wasn’t on them.

“I knew there were good days ahead for this group and that’s kind of why I went for it (the 2-point conversion), I’m willing to do anything for this group. They have shown they’ll make it happen some way and they did again tonight.”
