LSU with six sports ranked inside the Top 10
Spring sports are rolling in Baton Rouge, and LSU now has six programs ranked as Top 10 teams – and a trio of programs ranked in the Top 3 nationally.
Earlier this month, LSU softball head coach Beth Torina got her 500th win with the Tigers, but that’s only part of the early storyline to the season.
LSU softball moved up in the polls and is ranked No. 3 nationally with a 13-0 record, which includes multiple wins over Top 25 teams.
The LSU baseball and women’s basketball programs are coming off National Championship seasons, and baseball held firm near the top of the rankings on Monday while a recent win streak has Kim Mulkey and the basketball team back in the Top 10.
LSU Beach Volleyball debuted as a Top 10 program as the season begins in the sand, while the women’s track-and-field program is ranked inside the Top 10 as Southeastern Conference indoor competition concludes.
Here’s the rundown on each of the six LSU programs ranked inside the Top 10 of the polls.
No. 2: LSU Baseball … The LSU baseball team captured a College World Series title in 2023, and the Tigers opened the 2024 season ranked No. 2. LSU remained at No. 2 in Baseball America’s Top 25 following an opening stretch of two weeks that saw each team in the Top 5 drop one game.
No. 2: LSU Gymnastics … Jay Clark’s squad is coming off an appearance in the NCAA Championship Finals a year ago, and the Tigers are still red-hot as LSU holds on to the No. 2 spot in the first week of National Qualifying Score (NQS) rankings. The Tigers posted a season’s-best road score (197.950) against No. 5 Florida this past Friday in Gainesville. Haleigh Bryant remains the No. 1 gymnast in the country for the sixth consecutive week with her NQS of 39.730.

LSU returns a number of AVCA First-Team All-Americans in Ellie Shank, Parker Bracken, Ella Larkin, Reilly Allred, and Amber Haynes. The Tigers are off to a 3-1 start, with the lone blemish coming in a 3-2 loss to No. 4 TCU.

LSU rose four spots to No. 9 in Monday’s latest AP Poll, which came on the heels of three wins in seven days. The Tigers have won six straight games and will wrap up their regular season this week with a road matchup at Georgia before a home bout with Kentucky.
No. 9: LSU Women’s Track and Field … Dennis Shaver’s track-and-field programs have remained elite over the years, and the women’s program was ranked inside the Top 10 of the most recent USTFCCCA Rankings (the men checked in at No. 28). The Tigers just saw Brianna Lyston and Michaela Rose win SEC indoor individual titles, while the women’s team battled to a third-place finish. NCAA Championships are set to begin on March 8.
