The LSU football team begins spring practices on Thursday.

With the arrival of Brian Kelly’s second spring with the Tigers, the official roster was updated with new numbers for the players currently on campus.

Here’s the rundown on what numbers the double-digit transfers will be wearing for the Tigers during their first season at LSU.

WR Aaron Anderson – No. 1 – The Alabama transfer returns home to Louisiana for his second year of college football, though he’s expected to be sidelined during spring practices as he recovers from injury. Anderson is slated to be in competition for a starting spot at both wide receiver and on special teams as a return man.

EDGE Bradyn Swinson – No. 13 – The Oregon transfer will battle for playing time at the JACK position, which is left vacant with the departure of BJ Ojulari for the 2023 NFL Draft.

EDGE Ovie Oghoufo – No. 17 – Oghoufo signed with Brian Kelly at Notre Dame and played multiple years in South Bend. He then transferred to Texas, and after seeing plenty of playing time this past season with the Longhorns, he heads to Baton Rouge with a chance to see immediate playing time at the JACK position in his final year of college.

DL Paris Shand – No. 94 – The Arizona transfer could compete for the spot left open by Ali Gaye at defensive end, though he could find himself moving around the defensive line as the Tigers figure out the best available players ahead of the season.

DT Jordan Jefferson – No. 99 – Jefferson will play defensive tackle for the Tigers, and he’s got some promise coming off his time at West Virginia. The bad news is he will be sidelined this spring as he recovers from offseason knee surgery.

DT Jalen Lee – No. 96 – The Louisiana native and one-time LSU commitment spent the first part of his college career at Florida, but now he’s in purple-and-gold as a defensive tackle who is healthy and ready to roll in spring practices.

LB Omar Speights – No. 1 – The Tigers needed more linebackers, and landing Speights out of the portal was huge. He’s got just one year of eligibility remaining, but he’s coming off All-Pac 12 honors following a strong 2022 season. There’s a good chance Speights is a starter on LSU’s defense.

CB Zy Alexander – No. 24 – The Loreauville (La.) native spent multiple seasons at Southeastern in Hammond, and he shined on the FCS level. Now, he’s making the jump to the SEC with hopes of seeing immediate playing time in an LSU defensive backfield that doesn’t return many players from the 2022 roster.

CB Denver Harris – No. 10 – The former five-star was on Texas A&M’s roster as a freshman in 2022, but his decision to enter the Transfer Portal gave LSU the chance to get one of the country’s most promising young cornerbacks onto the roster. All expectations are that Harris is a starter for the Tigers immediately.

CB Duce Chestnut – No. 22 – Chestnut had a great two seasons at Syracuse, and his film and production showed he can play at the SEC level. He’s now on LSU’s roster and will compete for playing time at numerous spots in the defensive backfield, but he also will have to play catch up this offseason as he’s set to miss time this spring.

CB JK Johnson – No. 12 – Johnson signed with Ohio State as a Top 100 prospect, but he battled injury as a freshman before carving out a handful of starts this past season. He’s one of four transfer cornerbacks that will be competing for playing time ahead of the 2023 season.

Note: Maryland offensive line transfer Mason Lunsford, who announced his commitment this week, will receive a jersey number when he arrives on campus in May.
