Last week, LSU guards Mikaylah Williams and MiLaysia Fulwiley were two of the top players in the USA 3X3 Nationals camp tournament, which ended with Fulwiley and “Team Chaos” winning the tournament and beating WIlliams’ “Team Rise” in the title game.

It was an excellent look at what’s coming to the PMAC this year as these electric scorers and playmakers took the court with ample space to operate and all the freedom to create.

Here’s a rundown of highlights and clips from X, then we’ll get into my thoughts on the performances and what it means for the Tigers next season.

Highlights from LSU’s stars

Takeaways for this offseason

MiLaysia Fulwiley was outstanding, winning the MVP of the tournament and constantly showing why she’s one of the top guards in the country. This was a perfect setting for her to get her game going as her ball handling is top-tier and she was able to finish creatively around the basket. The biggest thing for Fulwiley was her shooting, though. In practices and in games, she was excellent from behind the arc, standing out as one of the best shooters in attendance. A lot of her game is downhill, so if she can raise her 3-point percentage up next season at LSU, it makes for a lethal combination with her speed. She even hit the game-winning three over Williams in the championship game.

Furthermore, I think she showed her defensive potential. In 3X3 there’s nowhere to hide and you have to be locked in defensively at all times. I was not only impressed with her length and quickness, but her overall motor and recovery ability to make plays and prevent buckets.

Overall, it was an outstanding showing from the newest LSU Tiger as she continues to show what makes her a special talent.

As for Williams, she had some elite shot making as always and helped carry her team to the title game. We know she’s comfortable in 3X3 settings and is especially deadly in isolation with her variety of ways of attacking. She was especially comfortable off ball screens and looking to attack in the mid range and from deep. She’s just an incredible shot-maker who will always be a joy to watch, especially in these open-court settings.

I want to continue to see her get more aggressive going to the rim this offseason and believe that will be a crucial part of her game next season at LSU. Other than that, I want to see her take on challenges more personally and really push herself in competition settings. She has to look to take over at times and understand that next year there’s a lot more on her shoulders. It’s a fascinating offseason for her as one of the most skilled players in college basketball and this was a good first step. Expectations are high for Williams who will enter the year as a preseason All-American, so it’s time to really lock in and expand her game.
