LSU's updated injury report vs Army, latest on Duce Chestnut
LSU head coach Brian Kelly took the podium on Thursday night to talk about his team, their upcoming opponent in Army, but most importantly and timely, to update the injury report ahead of Saturday’s game.
As Kelly’s team continues to navigate an eighth game of the season, a bye week follows and gives the players further incentive to close out this stretch strong before getting a break and then heading to Alabama.
Here is the latest injury report update from Kelly and my thoughts on each situation moving forward.
WR Chris Hilton – Active
Hilton is back from the high ankle sprain he suffered on the final play of the game against Ole Miss a few weeks ago. With the bye week coming up next, I don’t expect him to see a high number of snaps, but maybe get in sporadically to get his footing back under him. Even with the offense on a roll, he is certainly a weapon this team could use going into the final three SEC games of the year with his speed.

DT Mekhi Wingo – OUT
Wingo has been battling some lower body soreness and fatigue Brian Kelly said on Monday and with this week off and a bye week next week, that’s two weeks to get right for the Alabama game on Nov. 4. Wingo has been LSU’s best defensive lineman by a wide margin to this point in the year, but Jordan Jefferson and Jacobian Guillory should be capable of stepping in to keep Army at bay and winning at the point of attack on the interior.
OL Emery Jones – OUT
With Jones out, Lance Heard will step in at right tackle and get to further prove himself to the coaching staff. Jones had been playing at an All-SEC level before going down with an ankle injury against Auburn. Kelly made it sound like he would not be out long, so hopefully, the bye week is enough time to get back in action before Alabama. LSU’s offensive line has been one of the best and most consistent in the country so far this year, so Jones’ availability is crucial for this unit’s continuity.
DB Duce Chestnut – Inactive
Brian Kelly has teased an update on Chestnut for a few weeks now and when asked about Chestnut’s status with the team today, Kelly simply said he was “inactive”, but still on scholarship and on the team. After multiple weeks of not being with the team and seeming like his time at LSU was short lived, Chestnut is not kicked off and not leaving, but we have no further clarity on the matter. The secondary continues to look for answers with three SEC games remaining and pressure to be perfect.
