LSU target, commit help headline LSWA 5A all-state hoops

Add another major accolade to the impressive early résumé of Ruston star Ahmad Hudson.
The Bearcats’ sophomore headlined the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Class 5A all-state basketball teams released Monday as the Outstanding Player selection for Louisiana’s highest classification.
Hudson, also an all-state first-teamer as a freshman, garnered the superlative award this year after averaging 21 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks per game for the Division-I Non-Select quarterfinalists.
Midway through his high school career, he has now earned a pair of all-state basketball first-team selections as well as an all-state football first-team selection this fall as a sophomore.
The 6-foot-7, 240-pound multisport athlete is already a notable national prospect in both basketball and football, including LSU, Texas A&M and Grambling State on the list of schools recruiting him for both.
Hudson was Louisiana’s first 2027 prospect to receive a scholarship offer from LSU, as the Tigers made their move at the beginning of his sophomore school year.
Another high-profile LSU recruit earned a second-team selection in this year’s all-state voting.
East Ascension star Brysten Martinez, the Tigers’ offensive line commit, showed his mobility and skill throughout a junior basketball season in which he averaged 15.6 points and 8.8 rebounds, earned District 5-5A MVP honors and helped lead his Spartans to the Division-I Non-Select quarterfinals.
Martinez announced his pledge to coach Brian Kelly, offensive line coach Brad Davis and company in February.
Here’s a look at the full 2025 LSWA Class 1A all-state boys and girls basketball teams.
