New Orleans DB Bernard Causey inks with LSU
2024 New Orleans (La.) John F. Kennedy defensive back Bernard Causey signed his National Letter of Intent with LSU on Wednesday.
The Louisiana prospect had a chance to bond with teammates and recruit for the Tigers on his official visit this month. The most important thing he took away was how much he felt at home in Baton Rouge.
“I love how my new coaches showed love and made me feel more home than I was,” Causey told On3. “Made my family feel welcomed.”
The New Orleans area standout got time at head coach Brian Kelly’s house, touring academics and more.
“Few family activities, had dinner at Coach Kelly’s house that was amazing,” Causey said. “We got to go on the education side of campus and see how things are going to go there. Of course my favorite part was we had a few photoshoots.”
LSU’s entire coaching staff built a bond with him and his family on the visit. That made him feel even better about his decision.

“The bonding with the coaches was amazing,” Causey said. “I mean, I was even getting along with the offensive line coach and I’m a defensive person. All coaches made me feel loved. I was with Coach Kelly, Coach Steeples, Coach Frank, Coach Sherm, Coach E (Eddie Hicks). It was a few coaches I was with, all of them showed the same amount of love though. I respect that 100 percent. It shouldn’t be nothing for me to return the favor by going up to 225 and doing my thing.”
Kelly broke down what Causey can do right away when he gets to campus. Causey’s excited to have his recruitment done and take on Kelly’s challenge in January.
“I come in put some weight on,” he said of Kelly’s message, “Master my emotion part, lock in and I’ll be playing right away.”
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Causey ranks as the No. 55 cornerback in the nation and No. 15 prospect in Louisiana. On3 is even higher on him, ranking him as the No. 39 overall cornerback and No. 9 prospect in Louisiana.
