Davon Godchaux‘s recent request for a trade from the New England Patriots has landed him home.

The former LSU defensive tackle out of nearby Plaquemine High is headed to the New Orleans Saints, he announced to Twitter on Monday.

New Orleans will send New England a 2026 seventh-round pick as compensation in the deal which can be processed this week, according to ESPN’s Katherine Terrell.

“Home is where the heart is,” Godchaux posted via Twitter. “Excited to be coming home and playing for the great state of Louisiana! A dream come true to play high school ball, college ball, and now NFL in the same state! So ready for this opportunity to play in front of WHODATNATION!! God makes no mistake.”

The 6-foot-3, 330-pound veteran lineman has totaled 429 tackles with 5.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in 120 career games in eight seasons, primarily as a run-stuffing nose tackle.

Godchaux played in all 68 regular-season games the past four seasons in New England, starting all but one, after spending the first four seasons of his professional career with the Miami Dolphins, who drafted him in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

He has two years remaining on an extension he signed last July and moves from one franchise undergoing a coaching change to another.

Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore was announced last month as the Saints’ next head coach and has built out a staff in recent weeks that includes former Los Angeles Chargers coach Brandon Staley as defensive coordinator and LSU defensive line coach Bo Davis to the coach the same position in New Orleans.

The Saints’ top three defensive tackles in 2024 — Bryan Bresee (17 games, 11 starts), Khalen Saunders (13 games, 10 starts) and Nathan Shepherd (16 games, 13 starts) — are all currently under contract for 2025. But the organization is still in its early stages of offseason maneuvering.
