Ohio State transfer DB Sevyn Banks signs with LSU
Ohio State transfer defensive back Sevyn Banks committed to LSU, he announced on Tuesday. Banks visited Baton Rouge earlier this spring to get a feel for Brian Kelly’s program. The school announced Banks as a signee shortly after.
Banks is a “Super Senior” and left Ohio State as a graduate. Missing the first two and last three games in 2021, he notched eight tackles, one tackle for loss and a pass breakup.
After leaving the program in December, Banks announced he was withdrawing from the 2022 NFL Draft. He’s been focused on finishing rehab from his injury that hampered him this fall.
“First and always, I give thanks to God for blessing me with amazing strength and tenacity through all things,” Banks said in a note posted to Twitter. “At this time, I am very grateful that my rehab is going great. To which, I will continue getting stronger by the day preparing for the 2022 NCAA football season and the 2023 NFL Draft.
“To Buckeye Nation, I will be entering the NCAA transfer portal – leaving my options open to wherever God leads me to dominate into a greater chapter of my college career. Whether it’s here at The Ohio State or going beyond.”
Sevyn Banks one of many new faces for LSU at DB
LSU added numerous players in the secondary for the 2022 season, rebuilding a defensive back room that was thin as Brian Kelly took over at LSU.
Transfers Jarrick Bernard-Converse, Greg Brooks, Mekhi Williams-Garner and Joe Foucha are all competing in spring practice. From the high school ranks, LSU signed four-star defensive back Laterrance Welch and three-star prospects Jordan Allen and Jaelyn Davis-Robinson.

The former four-star recruit entered the 2021 season as a third-team preseason All-American and finishing 2020 as a Big Ten honorable mention.
Sevyn Banks entered the transfer portal after playing in 36 career games over four seasons at Ohio State. The 6-foot-1 senior has 43 career tackles, two interceptions and 13 pass deflections.
Entering college, Banks ranked as the No. 245 overall prospect in the 2018 recruiting class, according to the On3 Consensus. He also ranked as the No. 27 cornerback and No. 42 player from the state of Florida.
With Banks being the 30th new name to join the program in 2022, LSU has two spots remaining to address needs. Tight end and offensive lineman remain the top priorities for the program.
